Chapter Focus: Arizona

InfraGard Arizona is a very active chapter hosting two large events annually. The Annual Member Meeting is the largest event (350+ attendees in 2017) and hosts well-known keynote speakers on relevant topics of national importance. Each fall, a charity golf tournament is also held, which raises over $10,000. In addition, a number of training and educational opportunities are provided to members each month. Most of the training and programs are offered free of charge.

A major reason InfraGard Arizona can provide this level of training is the partnerships developed with several key organizations. InfraGard Arizona does not constantly rely on corporate sponsors, though occasionally does to help defray costs. Important partnerships include organizations such as the Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center (ACTIC), Arizona Cyber Threat Response Alliance (ACTRA), ASIS International, the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA), and DHS.

The promoting partnership InfraGard Arizona has with the ACTIC, Arizona’s Fusion Center, and their Community Liaison Program (CLP), is one example. This program’s mission is to establish and maintain strong communications between law enforcement, local businesses and the public. Making the program available to local InfraGard members helps to further the goals of both organizations.

InfraGard Arizona also continues to support and enjoy a major partnership with ACTRA, a closely affiliated but separate organization that acts as the ‘operational cyber arm’ of InfraGard Arizona. ACTRA’s member organizations span 14 CI/KR sectors, ranging from Fortune 50 to mid-market organizations. ACTRA’s mission is to empower its members to themselves create a ‘network to defeat a network’ driven by information exchange, response, and trust. ACTRA has successfully integrated public and private sector with law enforcement and intelligence at all levels allowing cyber threat intelligence to be shared, with or without attribution, at real time or near real-time speed. This allows member organizations to utilize cyber threat intelligence and make a difference.

ACTRA’s unique model is garnering the attention of Information Sharing and Analysis Organizations (ISAO’s) across the country and is being held up as a model to emulate. ACTRA recently gained possession of a 4,500 sq. ft. space in Phoenix at Grand Canyon University’s soon-to-open innovation center. This space will serve as ACTRA’s second cyber-warfare range and its second ACTRA Response Cell (or ARC), a threat intelligence SOC that apprentices employees of member organizations, provides threat intelligence across all member organizations, and proactively shares anonymized information with the FBI, DHS and other key stakeholders while aligning all stakeholders’ self-interests.
